About Quiet Lines Japan

Quiet Lines Japan is a collection of handwritten Japanese calligraphy works created in Japan by Senka Abe.

Each piece is written one by one in sumi ink, with great care for the meaning carried by each word.

While valuing stillness and space, these works are created to carry a soft presence rather than a cold or mechanical feeling.

Centered mainly on original works, they bring meaning and a gentle presence into everyday spaces.

Why I Choose Quiet Calligraphy

Quiet Lines Japan’s calligraphy is quiet not because I cannot write boldly.

I can create strong lines and large expressions when needed.
But what I value in this place is Japanese calligraphy that gently belongs in everyday living and remains close to daily life over time.

Not calligraphy made to strongly decorate a wall, but calligraphy that places a quiet center in a space.
I wrote more about this idea in the Journal.

About the Artist

I am Senka Abe(阿部茜華), a Japanese calligrapher based in Japan. I was born in 1981 and began studying calligraphy at the age of seven. I have more than 30 years of experience in shodō, the Japanese art of calligraphy.

I hold a calligraphy instructor qualification and have exhibited in the Sankei International Calligraphy Exhibition, one of Japan’s four major calligraphy exhibitions, where my work received awards and was selected for exhibition.

While my background is rooted in classical calligraphy, I am now drawn to the beauty of words that live within everyday life, creating works that quietly accompany the spaces we live in.
